GOOD news for Malaysians who are keen to pursue postgraduate degrees in Japan. They may now
apply for scholarships offered by ASJA (Asia Japan Alumni) International, in collaboration with the Japan Graduates' Association of
Malaysia (JAGAM).
This scholarship provides for two to four years of study in Japan. Candidates who do not have a good
command of the Japanese language must be prepared to attend an intensive Japanese language training programme prior to starting the postgraduate
programme proper.
All applicants must be between 18 and 35 years old. The successful candidate will be given a monthly
allowance of ¥134,000 (RM4,357) while pursuing the intensive language programme, and ¥172,000 (RM5,591) while doing the university’s postgraduate
research programme.
A return air ticket to Japan will also be provided and ¥75,000 (RM2,43) as a special allowance will be
given upon arrival in Japan.
This year’s scholarship recipient is Yap Moh Lan, a Universiti Malaya graduate who will be doing her
doctoral studies in biomolecular science.
“Qualified Malaysians should take this opportunity to study in Japan as the counrtry is very advanced in
the field of science and technology,” said JAGAM president Goh Nge Seung.
“Besides, the successful candidate will also get the chance to acquire an extra language and learn,
first hand, the work ethics of the Japanese. It is truly a great experience,” added Goh.
Applications close on June 20.
