Biasiswa Perdana Taylor College
Bumiputra students benefit from RM2 million worth of scholarships from Taylor's College. This
is in response to the Government's call to provide more opportunities for Bumiputra students for tertiary education in private colleges.
The inaugural Biasiswa Perdana Taylor Colleges launched on 29 May 2006 at Taylor's College Petaling Jaya, is in
partnership with 3 leading Malaysian corporations namely Bank Kerjasama Rakyat Malaysia Berhad, Berita Harian Sdn Bhd and Kuala Lumpur
Convention Centre.
This scholarship comprises of 3 different tiers with full and partial scholarships. The first tier offers 10 full scholarships, each coupled
with internship opportunities at one of the 3 corporate partners. It will be awarded to the top 10 successful Bumiputra applications.
Speaking at the launch, President of Taylor's College Malaysia, Ooi Chee Kok said “the Biasiswa Perdana Taylor Colleges is important as it
provides financial assistance coupled with invaluable internship experience at one of Malaysia's leading corporation to Bumiputera students.” Mr.
Ooi also said “through this scholarship scheme, we aim to create awareness among Bumiputra students that Taylor's College is sensitive to their
educational needs.”
The 2nd tier of the scholarship offers 50% bursary to the next top 10 applicants. Another 40% bursary will be awarded to the subsequent 50
successful applicants.
Bank Kerjasama Rakyat Malaysia Berhad is also offering the Al-Falah Education Financing, a special education scheme for eligible Bumiputera
recipients from Tier 2 and 3.
The Biasiswa Perdana Taylor Colleges is opened to Bumiputra students for its July 2006 intake. Applicants will be judged on their academic
qualifications in SPM, STPM or other pre-university courses. They will also be assessed according to their family's financial standing and their
involvement in extra-curriculum activities. To succeed, applicants need a good attitude, leadership qualities and persuasive communication
skills.
Successful applicants choose from a range of tertiary programmes available from the Taylor's Business School, School of Computing, School of
Communication and the School of Hospitality and Tourism Management. For the 1st tier of the scholarship, the students will receive internship
training with the partner organisations during their course of study. Upon graduation, they may also receive a minimum of one-year management
trainee experience and/or job offers, if deemed suitable, from the respective corporate partners.
Since its founding in 1969, Taylor's College has provided quality education to more than 45,000 students. The College's five campuses include
Taylor's College Subang Jaya, Taylor's Business School, Taylor's American Degree Programme, Taylor's College School of Hospitality and Tourism
and Taylor's College Petaling Jaya.
Programmes offered range from pre-university courses like the Cambridge A-Levels, South Australian Matriculation and International Canadian
Pre-University to diploma and degree twining programmes in a variety of disciplines including business, engineering, computer science, biomedical
sciences, law, mass communication and social sciences.
