Daiken Corp sets up scholarship fund for Sarawakian
Japanese firm Daiken Corporation has set up a scholarship fund for Sarawakians to further
their studies in forestry-related courses.
The company has contributed RM112,000 to the fund, which will be administered by the Sarawak Timber Association.
Daiken and the association signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) on Thursday at Wisma STA to adminster the fund.
Daiken Corporation's president Hiroyuki Ibe hoped that the scholarships would help to train more skilled manpower for the timber industry to
help in the conservation and sustainable forest management work.
Daiken subsidiaries were involved in the manufacturing of medium density fibreboards in Sarawak.
The association's chairman Datuk Leo Chai hoped that the scholarships would create interest among more Sarawakians in forestry and
conservation work.
