HEALTHCARE company GlaxoSmithKline has formed a partnership with the British High Commission to co-fund the Chevening Scholarship for a Malaysian student planning to study in the United Kingdom.
The one-year scholarship worth about RM58,000 will cover tuition fees as well as book and living allowances in the United Kingdom.A signing ceremony between the two parties was held recently. The main objective in co-funding the scholarship is to provide an opportunity for a Malaysian student to do post-graduate study in a renowned institution of higher learning and experience the British culture.
Acting High Commissioner Patrick Moody noted that the theme for this scholarship was based on biotechnology. “And the United Kingdom brings an outstanding record in drugs discovery, a world-class academic base and related research and development. “As Malaysia’s government has identified developing biotechnology as a key path to moving up the global chain, this partnership serves as a favourable convergence of interest,” he added.
Selection of a suitable candidate will be conducted by the British High Commission.
