The Wawasan Open University’s (WOU) scholarship fund received a big boost from the Road to Dawn movie RM5mil was raised after two previews of the movie in Penang and here.
Yesterday, the mock cheque for RM5mil was handed over to Gerakan party adviser Datuk Seri Dr Lim Keng Yaik who received it on behalf of WOU’s education foundation.
Road To Dawn is a joint effort between Malaysia and China.
Filmed in Penang last year, the movie revolves around revolutionary leader Dr Sun Yat Sen and his life on the island in the 1900s.
Hong Kong director Derek Chiu directed the movie while the cast includes Malaysian actress Angelica Lee and Chinese actor Winston Chao and actress Wu Yue.
Proceeds from the movie in Malaysia and Brunei will go to the scholarship fund with WOU owning the exclusive copyright of the film in the two countries for the next five years.
The preview at GSC Mid Valley was the second preview in the country following the movie’s screening in Penang on Monday.
Previews will continue nationwide in a bid to raise more donations before showing at the cinemas and Astro by the end of the year.
