The International Medical University (IMU) Scholarships 2009

The International Medical University (IMU) has recognized that there are many Malaysian students who aspire to be a health sciences professional. For various reasons, some of these students are not able to achieve their life-long ambition, including those students whose families do not have the financial resources to support them for entry into an international institution like the IMU.

In view of this, the IMU has established a number of scholarships to be awarded to:

Two (2) students to pursue the undergraduate medical course in Malaysia leading to the MBBS (IMU).
Two (2) students to pursue the entire eight (8) semesters of the twinned undergraduate pharmacy course leading to the MPharm (Hons) degree (in collaboration with the University of Strathclyde).
One (1) student to pursue the Bachelor of Pharmacy programme to be conducted wholly in IMU, leading to the BPharm (Hons).
Two (2) students to pursue the Bachelor of Nursing degree leading to the BNursing (Hons).

Students who wish to apply must have excellent academic background together with other qualities, including strong extra-curricula activities and who, for financial reasons, would otherwise be unable to pursue a career in medicine, pharmacy or nursing.

These prestigious scholarships are established to reflect the IMU’s contribution to society. It also is an integral part of the University’s staff development scheme to groom young individuals with high potential to be part of the future IMU faculty for training of medical, pharmacy and allied health professionals. This is in line with our nations strive towards excellence in education and health care in the 21st century.

u guys can’t apply if u don’t have any sort of foundation, u can’t apply for scholarship with forecast, need real results, n if u think u can get scholarship after SPM, forget it, that’s not even considered for medicine.

U cannot apply for scholarships after SPM, how come u guys don’t get the message? u need foundation either in STPM or at least A levels (or equivalent), with real results not trials or forecast. u need to excel, there is not such thing as entering IMU straight after SPM. ‘nough said!!

Those from Form 5 this year and doing SPM 2008 wont be able to apply for this medicine scholarship..you need a foundation to enter imu medicine..such as A-levels, SAM etc.. which you have to get from college first..I don’t think imu offers foundation in medicine..I’m a first year medical student in imu. lol and those from form 5 this year should really read other comments as well..apparently a number of people such as Jay has commented that there’s no such thing as entering imu straight after spm..well..definitely not medicine and you can in fact apply to go into imu with forecast results for A-levels etc..then you’d be getting a conditional offer.. calm down Jay..haha =)

First of all, the point I was trying to make was to direct people to the IMU website and not beg and plead on this website as http://www.malaysia-scholarship.com is merely informative and is in no way affiliated with IMU. And if you’ve noticed, the ‘publics’ did not give ‘feedback.’ Instead, they were moaning and begging for scholarships, completely unaware that their querries will go unanswered unless they used the proper channels (IMU website). I was trying to do them a favour, albeit in a sarcastic manner. How else will Malaysians learn?

About SPM results, it is CLEARLY stated in the website that it is insufficient to apply for scholarships. I reiterate; it is NOT my personal opinion. It is written in black and white that you need Pre-Uni results to be considered for the scholarship. Furthermore, a few kind souls from IMU dropped comments about this issue too. As always, idiots like you did not read through the comments and went straight into flaming me.

Dear all,
I’m an IMU scholar and will try to answer some of your questions. Hopefully, this would give you a brief idea about this scholarship. Please note that I’m doing this on an personal basis and not because I’m an official spokeperson for this matter. For definitive information, always refer to the IMU website.

1. Only STPM/A-Levels or equivalent will be considered. SPM/SPM Trials is not sufficient to be considered for the scholarship.
2. You can get the application form, instructions and criteria at this url: http://www.imu.edu.my/pro-financial-imu.html
3. You DO NOT have to be enrolled in IMU to apply for this scholarship. For example, you might be studying engineering in UTM and am not enrolled in IMU but you can still apply for this scholarship. Once you get the scholarship, you can start studying in IMU.
4. IMU is in Bukit Jalil, Kuala Lumpur. You can reach there by taking Star LRT to Sri Petaling and walking across the pedestrian bridge.
5. This is an annual scholarship. It is offered every year. It is closed for 2010.
6. Even if you are already studying another course in another uni, you can still apply. For example, you might be already 2 years into an engineering course in UTM and am interested to apply. You can do that.
7. So far, the scholarship encompasses the full tuition fees, accomodation for the first 2.5 years and also RM8000 allowance yearly. There is also a bond period of 7-10 years. All these are subject to change. Please check the website for the latest info.
8. As for those who are wondering about how to apply, you can download the forms from the website above, fill in the details, prepare the necessary documents and testimonials and snail mail them to the address provided. Should you be shortlisted, you would be contacted for an interview before being given the scholarship.
9. This scholarship is USUALLY open by mid-March of each year with a submission deadline around May.
